Keonjhar: With no respite in sight from sexual violence against minor girls in the state, Baria Police today arrested a man on charges of raping a 17-year-old girl in Jhumpura area here.
The accused has been identified as Babaji Behera, a resident of the same village.
As per the allegation against Behera, he overpowered the victim, who is also a resident of the same village, last evening while the latter had gone to attend nature’s call. Later, taking her to a forested area near the village the accused outraged her modesty.
The girl’s family members lodged a case at Baria Police Station last night in connection with the incident after she narrated it before them.
The accused was taken into custody from his house this morning.
After medical examination of both the victim and the accused at Keonjhar DHH, the latter has been forwarded to court.
