17 Odia Girls Rescued At Rajahmundry Railway Station In Andhra

Bhubaneswar: 17 girls from Odisha were rescued by the GRP and RPF from the Bhubaneswar-Mumbai CSTM Konark Express at Rajahmundry railway station in Andhra Pradesh.

The rescued girls hail from Keonjhar, Ganjam, Kandhamal and Gajapati districts in Odisha and were allegedly being trafficked to Mumbai on the pretext of employment.

Acting on inputs about the trafficking, the GRP and RPF with the help of Childline officials carried out a search operation in Andhra Pradesh and rescued the girls from the train.

A Police official informed that the search was carried after a passenger onboard the train alerted them to the situation.

Meanwhile, the victims have been sent for counselling and the Police has initiated a probe in the matter. Efforts are also underway to establish contact with the families of the victims.
