15 Odia migrant labourers rescued from Telengana

Rayagada: Unearthing yet another case of Odia migrant labourers getting tortured in the hands of their employees in neighbouring states, a voluntary organisation saved at least 15 persons from a brick kiln in Telengana State yesterday.

All the rescued labourers identified as residents of Balangir had been engaged in Karlachilla village under Peddapalli district of the neighbouring state in a brick kiln and were not being paid their remuneration for past three months. They were also being subjected to inhumane torture.

A voluntary organisation namely, International Human Rights Centre (IHRC) came to know about the plights of the migrant labourers through one of its members and swung into action to rescue them few days ago. They victims were finally freed from the clutches of the torturous brick kiln owner with the help of local labour department officials last night.

After being brought back to Rayagada in a train from Telengana the labourers were sent to their respective homes this morning with the help of labour department staffs, informed sources.
