Malkangiri: The red-rebels suffered a major setback in neighbouring Chhattisgarh after Sukma Police arrested 15 hardcore Maoists during a combing operation last night.

Informing on the arrests Sukma SP Abhishek Meena said the arrested were made by a police team which had been engaged on combing following the March 13 attack by Maoists, which killed at least 9 CRPF men in the state. The arrested red rebels were also involved in the attack, he added.

“The arrested Maoists were active in the outlawed organisation since long and were involved in over 15 attacks. The arrestees include two women Maoists, who played a crucial role in March 13 attack on CRPF’s Mine Protected Vehicle (MPV),” said Meena.

Similarly, unconfirmed reports of Maoist Central Committee Member Arvind’s death were also received today which is being probed by Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand Police. It is suspected that Arvind who remained active as a Maoist leader for last 25 years and led red attacks in at least six states had died following a sickness.
