15 kg ganja seized in Balasore, peddler held

Balasore: Launching a crackdown on the illegal drug trade in the State, Excise Department officials conducted a raid in Fatehpur Junia village under Khantapada police limits in Balasore district today and seized ganja weighing around 15 kg.

A peddler identified as Ashok Kumar Nayak was also taken into custody during the raid.

Acting upon a tip-off on a ganja consignment which was being readied to get delivered, a joint team of Soro Police and Balasore Excise Mobile Unit raided the house of Nayak in the morning and caught him rai-handed.

The accused was running a tea stall in the village and selling ganja discreetly. The seized drug would worth over Rs 90,000, said Excise officials.

Interrogation of the held peddler is underway to extract more information on the flourishing ganja trade in the district.
