Jharsuguda: In no respite in sight from sexual assault on minors in the state, police on Monday detained a youth in Sagarpali village under Rengali police limits on charges of raping a 13-year-old girl who lived in his neighbourhood.
The detainee has been identified as Bedabyas Khanda.
As per the complaint, Bedabyas barged into the victim’s house June 3 when she was alone and overpowered her and raped for hours. Later, he left the spot with a note of warning to the victim not to disclose the matter to anybody.
After remaining silent under constant fear for a few days, the girl narrated the whole incident before her mother on Sunday, following which a case was filed at the Rengali Police Station.
The victim has been admitted to the Jharsuguda DHH due to sickness.
On the other hand the family members of the victim have alleged that the aides of the accused are putting pressure on them to withdraw the case.
