23 baby cobras rescued in Odisha’s Kendrapara district

Kendrapara: Members of the Kendrapada Snake Helpline rescued as many as 23 baby cobra snakes on Wednesday. The snakes were rescued from the house of Manjulata Nayak in Goudagan village under Marshaghai Block of the district.

“We rescue snakes during the monsoon season, when the majority of snakes lay their eggs, but this is the first time that we have ever saved baby snakes” said the Snake Helpline member Prafulla Swain,

“These snakes will be released into the wild, where they belong”, he added. 

Similarly in Puri,19 Krait snake eggs also hatched in a house yesterday. A call to save a krait snake from a house in the Konark area of the district was received by a snake helpline worker, Braja Kishore Sahu. 

After saving the snake, he kept it at his place for two days, during which the snake laid 19 eggs. In the end, he kept the eggs in a jar and released the mother snake back into the wild. He noticed that all of the eggs had hatched into young snakes about 61 days later. He has informed that all the baby snakes will be released into the forest during the presence of the Konark Forest Department.
