125 Bags Of Charcoal Seized In Ghatagaon Town Of Odisha

Keonjhar: A joint team of Ghatagaon Forest Department and the district squad have conducted a raid and seized 125 sacks of charcoal in Darakhala and Melana village near Atei Reserve Forest in Keonjhar district of Odisha.

The Ghatagaon Range Officer Prabhat Kumar Kunwar, Forester Tikeswar Mahanta, Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF) Ghanashyam Mohanta, Forest squad and Para-forest employees along with the joint team conducted the raid.

Some locals reportedly have been regularly cutting down valuable wood from the forest and burning them in order to produce charcoal. Later, they illegally transport the charcoals to Cuttack and Jajpur.

Based on a tip-off, the Ghatagaon Forest Department officials conducted a raid and seized 125 bags of charcoal.

The value of the seized charcoal is estimated to be more than rupees one lakh.
