12-year-old girl gang-raped in Odisha’s Keonjhar

Keonjhar: A 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped by two persons in Fakirpur under Jhumpura police limits in Odisha’s Keonjhar district.

The victim’s mother lodged a complaint about the incident at Jhumpura police station on Friday evening, police said today.

The girl told the police that the same two persons had raped her one month back and threatened of dire consequences if she would tell anybody about the incident.

According to reports, the girl went to a market in Jhumpura at around 4 PM on Friday to sell lemons. During her return to home, she was picked by two youths on a bike and raped in an isolated place.

Later the accused were taking the victim to Jhumpura when their bike rammed into a roadside tree. As a result, the girl fell off the bike and broke her leg. Soon after the incident, the accused fled from the spot leaving the injured girl on the roadside.

Hearing her screams, locals rescued the girl and rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital here. Her condition was stated to be critical.  She was referred to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

“A case has been registered at Jhumpura police station under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in this connection. Further investigation is on and the miscreants will be arrested very soon,” police said.
