12-hr bandh over action against VIMSAR Director hits normal life in Burla

Burla: Normal life was badly hit due to the 12-hour bandh called by the Burla Sachetana Nagarika Manch protesting the state government’s action against Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) Director Dr Aswini Kumar Pujahari for his alleged unethical clinical practices.

Business establishments, educational institutions, offices and banks remained closed in the city due to the bandh.

Likewise, several people were seen left stranded in the bus stand as vehicles remained off road following the blockades by the members of the Burla Sachetana Nagarika Manch at various places.

The agitators demanded re-appointment of Pujahari as the director of VIMSAR.

The local administration has deployed adequate police personnel to avoid any untoward incident during the bandh.

It is worthwhile to mention here that, the state government had served a show-cause notice and directed him to remain on leave till his reply is received and disposed by the state government.

Meanwhile, the state government has appointed Director of Regional Spinal Injury Centre at Cuttack, Dr Prakash Chandra Mohapatra as in-charge of the Director of VIMSAR.

The state government’s action came in the wake of cease-work agitation by the Junior Doctors’ Association (JDA) of the VIMSAR and a police complaint lodged against him for allegedly conducting experimental surgeries on poor and destitute patients using salt as hypertonic saline which contained low sodium.
