12-hour Koshal Mahabandh hits normal life in western Odisha districts

Balangir: Normal life came to a standstill following a 12-hour ‘Koshal Mahabandh’ in at least 11 districts of western Odisha today by Koshal State Coordination Committee, pressing for the creation of a separate Koshal state.

While the impact of the bandh was witnessed was major in areas like Balangir, Jharsuguda and Deogarh towns commuters faced a tough time due to disruption of road traffic by the bandh supporters at a number of places.

Protesters in large numbers were seen resorting to picketing starting from 6 am in the morning in all major cities of the districts where the bandh was observed. That apart, shops and business establishments also downed their shutters by extending their support to the Committee.

However, the essential services ran as usual as those were kept out of the purview of the bandh. Plying of buses and train services continued uninterrupted despite the protest.
