12-hour Dharmgarh Bandh over district status

Bhawanipatna: Normal Life was hit in six blocks under Dharmgarh sub-division of Kalahandi district in Odisha on Thursday due to the 12-hour-long bandh called by Milita Kriyanusthan Committee demanding district status for Dharmgarh.

Six blocks include Dharmgarh, Golamunda, Jaipatna, Junagarh, Kalampur, and Koksora.

Offices, educational institutions, markets and business establishments were closed and vehicles remained off the road in the region from 6 AM today.

“Several villages of the sub-division are located around 100 km away from the district headquarter town, Bhawanipatna. People find difficult to reach there for their official work,” said a member of the committee.

“We will intensify our stir over the demand in the coming days, if the government fails to address it at the earliest,” he added.

Meanwhile, adequate security arrangement was made by the district administration to avoid any untoward incident during the bandh.
