Malkangiri: Normal life was completely  paralysed in the Chitrakonda cut-off area in the district today following a 12-hour bandh called by Malkangiri District Congress Committee over a six-point charter of demands.

Bandh supporters led by former Nabarangpur MP and Congress leader Pradeep Majhi staged road blockades and demonstrations at various places in the area demanding fulfillment of the demands by ESSAR company and the district administration.

While vehicular traffic was completely  disrupted in the area during the bandh, shops and other business establishments also kept their shutters down.

Congress is demanding distribution of land records to landless people in the area, issuance of caste and income certificates to school students on priority basis along with setting up of vocational training institutions and educational institutions with primary to degree teaching facility.

Similarly, it is also demanding safe drinking water connectivity to the villages in the district and setting up of primary health centres at Panaspur, Kumanur and Jantapai villages by ESSAR company.

“We demand immediate issuance of caste certificates to those 2,000 students in the area who were ousted from their schools in absence of it. Similarly, we demand land pattas to those who have not got it yet, and land demarcation for those who have already received it in the area”, said Majhi ahead of the bandh observation.

“If ESSAR company makes any delay in setting up of primary health centres in the area then its slurry pump house would be prevented from functioning. We would carry out an indefinite strike in the district from December 16 in case the district administration fails to fulfill all the demands”, warned Majhi.
