12-hour Borigumma bandh over minor girl’s kidnap hits business

Jeypore: Shops and business establishments across Borigumma town remained closed and denizens faced a tough time today following a 12-hour bandh called by a number of organisations protesting a local girl’s kidnap recently.

Members of Boriguma citizen’s association, traders’ association, Brahman Samaj, RSS and VHP took to the streets and staged picketing in market areas. They also marched on rally protesting police’s negligence in arresting the culprits even after five days of occurrence of the crime.

While the bandh observance was started from 6 AM in the morning and is scheduled to continue till 6 PM, schools, colleges and other educational institutions remained open as these were kept out of the purview of it. Similarly, vehicular movement on the roads including plying of buses also remained normal despite the bandh observance.

Notably, the victim, a Class 10 girl of Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya located near Borigumma was kidnapped from her way back to home on September 13. He was returning home after taking part in school Ganesh Puja when the miscreants struck. While her family lodged a case with police on the same day, no arrest in the case has been made so far.

Angry locals and family members of the victim staged a dharna in front of Borigumma Police Station over the issue yesterday. Jeypore SDPO Pratyush Diwakar, who reached the spot last night and assured the agitators for the arrest of the accused at its earliest, went in vein.
