Sundergarh:  Normal life crippled in Banei Sub-division in the district in Odisha on Thursday following 12-hour bandh call given by the District Kriyanusthan Committee demanding district status for Banei.

Offices, educational institutions,  and business establishments were closed, while vehicles remained off the road in the region from 6 AM today.

Vehicular movement on NH 502, NH 143, and SH 10 in  Banei area came to a standstill due to the bandh observation and commuters faced a tough time to reach their destinations.

“Several villages of the sub-division are located around 100 km away from the district headquarter town. People find difficult to reach there for their official work,” said a member of the committee.

“We will intensify our stir over the demand in the coming days, if the government fails to address it at the earliest,” he added.

Meanwhile, adequate security arrangement was made by the district administration to avoid any untoward incident during the dawn-to-dusk bandh.
