12-hour bandh over relocation of school cripples life in Athamallik

Angul: Life was completely paralysed in Athamallik sub division in the district today following a 12-hour bandh call given by a local group over relocation of a school.

Athamallik Vikash Manch, a local group gave the dawn-to-dusk band call protesting relocation of ‘Adarsh Vidyalay’ from Aida panchayat to Banamalipur area in the district and claimed it would adversely affect the education of children living in villages under this panchayat.

Streets wore a deserted look during the bandh observation which started at 6 AM in the morning and continued till 12 noon. While shops and other business establishments in the sub division remained closed, bus service to and fro Athamallik was also cancelled during the protests.

Bandh supporters staged road blockade at different places in the area by burning tyres and resorted to sloganeering.

Local police made ample security arrangement in the area in view of the bandh to keep untoward incidents at bay.
