12-hour bandh by Congress cripples life in Binika

Sonepur: Life came to a standstill in Binika area in Sonepur district in the state on Monday owing to a 12-hour bandh called by Congress demanding filling up of doctor’s posts lying vacant in Binika Community Health Centre (CHC) and other hospitals in its vicinity.

Commuters faced a tough time during the bandh observation which started since 6 AM in the morning and brought down the vehicular movement on the roads to a grinding halt. While schools, colleges and other educational institutes remained closed during the bandh in Binika town, business establishments also downed their shutters.

Road blockades were staged by Congress activists at several key points in Binika town who also resorted to burning of tyres.

Notably, tension has flared up in Binika area for last couple of days following doctor and other health official crunch in hospitals in the locality. While the Binika block jounalists’ association is on a strike over the issue since August 6, the BJP also observed a 12-hour bandh on August 11.

Bar Association, trader’s unions, students’ bodies and other local groups have extended their support to today’s bandh of late.
