12 Children fall sick after Measles-Rubella vaccination in Odisha

Puri: As many as twelve students from different primary schools of Brahmagiri block in the coastal district were rushed to hospital after suffering from “common side effects” of the Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccine on Thursday evening.

A majority of the children complained of fever and stomach ache while some complained of vomiting and nausea.

“A total of 101 children from different schools were vaccinated at the school premises,” Headmaster of Mota UP School, Basanta Kumar Sethi said.

“However, 12 children complained of stomach ache, vomiting and nausea at their home after leaving the school. Their anxious guardians called us immediately,” he added.

 

The students were admitted at the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Rebana Nuagaon under Brahmagiri block last evening. Their condition was said to be stable after the treatment.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had flagged off the state-wide MR vaccination campaign aiming to cover around 1.13 crore children between the age of nine months and 15 years across the State.
