11 trucks ransacked, Rs 5 lakh looted from drivers in Cuttack

Cuttack: By throwing an open challenge to police a group of miscreants vandalized as many as 11 trucks and looted cash from the drivers in a midnight-mayhem near Nimeisapur village under Tangi police limits here yesterday.

As per the report, the trucks which were looted had been parked near the Nimeisapur petrol pump at around 2.30 am when a group of armed robbers reached near those and started threatening the drivers with sharp weapons to handover cash. As some drivers refused to fulfil their demands the robbers started breaking the window glasses of the vehicles.

At least two drivers sustained injuries after being hit by the broken window glasses of the truck and handed over a total of Rs 5 lakh to the attackers subsequently.

After the attackers fled from the spot, the victim drivers reported the matter to their owners after which complaints were lodged at the Tangi Police Station.

While Tangi Police has reached the spot for investigation, it suspects the hand of some local residents in the attack as a dispute is going on between the villagers and the truck drivers over parking for past few months.
