Dhenkanal: Vast stretch of sugarcane crop was damaged during a fire which broke out in Bhojadeipur village under Dhenkanal Sadar Police Station last night.
As per the report, sparks erupted in the crop field located on the outskirts of the village in the evening and engulfed the sugarcane farmed on 11 acres of land.
Fire services personnel from Dhenkanal and Hindol road reached the spot and doused the blaze after Herculean efforts later but till then the affected farmers had lost sugarcane worth lakhs to the mishap.
While the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, the affected families have demanded compensation from the government for their loss.
