1000 litres of illicit country liquor seized in Balasore, 2 held

Balasore: Tightening the noose around the necks of illegal liquor traders in the district, Excise officials seized illicit country liquor weighing around 1000 litres from a van near Dhanagheri Chhak under Raibania police limits here today and arrested two persons.

While the identification of the held bootleggers is yet to be ascertained, they are said to be residents of neighbouring West Bengal State.

Acting upon a tip-off a five-member team Jaleswar Excise Police team led by OIC Haraprasad Rana carried out a raid at Dhanagheri Chhak at around 4 am today and intercepted a Maruti Omni van bearing Registration Number- WB34AR3442.

During the raid which was conducted under the direction of Superintendent of Excise Rajendra Kumar Batra, the Excise team seized a number of sacks carrying country liquor pouches and seized them.

Later, two bootleggers who were boarding the van were taken into custody for interrogation.

Notably, the Excise Department had put Jaleswar under its scanner after a number of allegations of flourishing illegal liquor trade surfaced from the area in past few months.
