Balasore: At least 10 passengers were severely injured and a few others sustained minor injuries after a State Government-run OSRTC bus veered off a bridge near Bareni in the district last night.
The mishap took place at around 1 AM in the night while the OSRTC bus (Registration No. OD 02 AE 5003) was on its way to Kolkata from Puri with around 45 passengers on board. It is suspected that the driver of the bus dozed off and lost control over the wheels while driving causing it to skid off the bridge.
While all the passengers were asleep during the accident at least 10 of them sustained serious injuries getting stuck inside the mangled bus. They were rushed to the Balasore District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) along with several other passengers who sustained minor injuries by police later in the night.
Police have seized the bus reaching the spot and are trying to trace the driver who absconded after the accident.
