1 labourer asphyxiated to death, 1 critical in Keonjhar

Keonjhar: At least one labourer was asphyxiated to death and another serious in a survey camp of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) in Anandur in the district last night.

The deceased has been identified as N. Suresh and the other is K. Veera. Both the victims are from Andhra Pradesh and part of an ONGC team engaged in petrol and diesel exploration work in Keonjhar and adjoining areas of the district.

The mishap took place late in the night while the victims were asleep in their tents. One was choked to death and the other  turned critical after inhaling poisonous gas emitted from the battery of a generator running nearby in the camp.

After the incident came to fore early in the morning today, ONGC officials rushed the duo to Anandpur Sub-Divisional Hospital where Suresh died under treatment. Veera’s condition is still critical.

Anandpur Police have reached the hospital and started investigation in the incident.
