Titlagarh: At least one person was killed and five others from both sides sustained injuries after a bloody clash erupted between two families over Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awaas Yojana (PMGAY) house construction in Silua village under Titlagarh police limits in Balangir district last night.

The deceased has been identified as Abhi Chhatria.

Trouble started brewing up between Abhi’s family and his neighbour Dharnai Chhatria in the village on Monday after the former started construction work of a house under PMGAY on a piece of land in the village. Claiming the land to be a disputed one Dharani objected Abhi’s move and latter attacked him with a stick. The incident sparked a brawl between both the families in which Abhi sustained critical head injury and died on the spot. His brother Basant also sustained critical injury in the clash.

On the other hand four members of Dharani Chhatria’s family were also hurt in the incident.

The injured were rushed to the Titlagarh CHC by police who reached the spot following the incident. Basant, whose condition deteriorated further, was later shifted to Balangir DHH.

Two separate cases have been lodged at the Titlagrh Police Station by both the families.

Police force has been deployed in the village keeping in view the prevailing palpable tension.
