1 killed, 5 including couple injured in separate road mishaps in Odisha

Malkangiri/Phulbani/Khordha: A truck driver was killed and at least five persons including a couple sustained injuries in separate road mishaps which took place in the state since Wednesday night.

In the first instance, a ‘102’ ambulance dashed against a bike, which was carrying a couple, head-on and ended up hitting a roadside tree subsequently, near MV-7 village in Malkangiri district last night. The crash took place after the ambulance driver failed to spot the bike in dark while returning after dropping a patient at Malkangiri DHH.

The intensity of the collision was so high that both the vehicles got completely mangled from the front leaving the couple critical. They were immediately rushed to the DHH for treatment.

In a similar incident later in the night, at least three persons were hurt after a bike rammed into another bike near the old petrol pump under Baliguda police limits in Kandhamal district.

All the injured in the accident were rushed to Baliguda Sub Divisional Hospital from where one of them was shifted to Phulbani DHH due to critical condition.

Both the bikes were heading to Nauagaon from Baliguda when the crash occurred.

In Khordha this morning, a truck driver was killed after at least four trucks hit each other from behind near Godipada area on NH-16 in the wee hours today.

While the mishap disrupted traffic flow on the NH for several hours, Jankia Police reached the spot and seized the mangled trucks after sending the dead body for autopsy.
