Balangir: At least one person was killed and five others sustained injuries after a passenger bus carrying them turned turtle near Puintala of Balangir-Sonepur road here in the wee hours today.
The deceased has been identified as Arun Patra, a resident of Dumurabahal village.
The mishap took place at around 4 am today while the bus namely Sri Ram bearing registration number OR 02 BX 9001 was en-route to Balangir carrying around 30 passengers from Bhubaneswar. The driver of the vehicle lost control over the wheels due to some reason following which it veered off the road and overturned near Puintala.
While one of the passengers boarding the bus died on the spot in the crash, the injured were later rushed to Bhimabhoi Medical College and Hospital by some locals for treatment.
Police have seized the mangled bus after sending the deceased for autopsy.
