Nabarangpur: In a road mishap, a fireperson was killed and five others sustained critical injury after a fire tender they were boarding turned turtle on State Highway 39 near Siraguda village under Umerkote police limits in the district last night.
The deceased fireman has been identified as Purna Chandra Jani. Purna Chandra was working as a driver in the fire service department.
The mishap took place late in the night yesterday when the fire tender carrying at least four firemen was returning after attending an emergency call at Siraguda village. A few hours after leaving the village, the vehicle developed a technical glitch and skidded off the road before turning turtle.
While Purnachandra died on the spot the injured firemen were rushed to Umerkote CHC in critical condition by police later in the night and then shifted to Nabarangpur DHH due to deteriorating condition.
