Anandpur: At least one person was killed and six others sustained injuries, after an auto-rickshaw carrying them hit an ambulance van at Chianbeda Square on Anandpur-Karanjia Road in Keonjhar district last night.
The deceased has been identified as Shyamsundar Ho (30), the auto driver.
As per the report, a group of passengers from Kathakata village had gone to watch an opera staged in the ‘Gahalamunda Jatra’ which is currently underway and was returning home when the tragedy struck.
It is being suspected that the driver of both the vehicles involved in the crash failed to spot each other’s vehicle due to dark and ended up having a nasty collision. The impact of the crash was so intense that the auto-rickshaw got completely mangled in it.
While, Ho died on the spot, the injured were rushed to Anandpur Sub-Divisional Hospital by police for treatment following the incident.
One critical has been shifted to SCB Medical in Cuttack later.
