Berhmapur: At least one youth was critically hurt after miscreants hurled bombs and fired several rounds of bullet at him over past political rivalry in Sorada village under Buguda police limits in Ganjam district last night.

The injured has been identified as Budha Pradhan, son of Karadabadi panchayat sarpanch.

The attack took place at around 7 PM in the night, minutes after Budha along with a group of friends reached a village pond to take bath. At least 4-5 assailants who were waiting for him near the pond opened fire at him and hurled bombs. After the victim sustained a bullet injury on his left abdomen and fell down the assailants rushed towards his home and hurled another bomb before driving away on a Hero Glamour bike.

The victim was first rushed to Bhanjanagar Medical from where he was shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.

“The attack was carried out by Krushna Sethi, Krushna Behera and their aides from Sorada village. The accused had threatened Budha over his political affiliation during the last panchayat election in the state and a case had also been lodged at Balipadar Police Station in connection with it. We demand stringent action and high level probe in the case,” said Manoj Pradhan, brother of the victim.

Meanwhile, Buguda and Balipadar Police have reached the spot and started investigation.
