1 candidate dies, 2 fall sick during fitness test for IRB recruitment

Boudh: At least one candidate died and two others fainted during the physical fitness test which was held in Balasinga area in the district as part of the recruitment process of the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) this morning.

The deceased has been identified as Prabasi Nayak of Sorada village in Nayagarh district. The sick are Kuna Nayak of Geleikutuni village of Dhenkanal and Prabhat Kumar Sahu of Karadi village in Boudh districts.

The victims took part in the 5 kilometres run which was held at the IRB 5th Batallion camp located in Balasinga this morning as a part of the jawan recruitment. While the running test was held on NH-157 the victim trio were on their way to reach the camp when the tragedy struck. All three developed sickness and collapsed just 200 metres away from the finish line.

While the victims were rushed to Boudh DHH, Prabasi died under treatment.

The sick duo is now out of danger after treatment, said doctors treating him at the hospital.
