Malkangiri: The district police seized two lakh cash from hotel Golden View in Mahakuma in Malkangiri district on Tuesday. With the model code of conduct in view, the unaccounted cash was seized.
As per reports, a businessman identified as Susant Kumar Panda was staying in room 106 in Golden View hotel. Based on a tip-off, police raided the hotel and found cash upon Panda. 100 Rs 2000 currency notes were part of the two lakh cash.
Panda stressed that the cash was for his business but was not able to produce any proper documents regarding the cash. The election observer has been duly informed about the matter.
With just two days left for the first phase of elections, there have been multiple rumours of cash exchange with horse trading. Police with Election Commission has strengthened their vigil.
