New Delhi: The two apparent weaklings of tournament- Afghanistan and Sri Lanka will face each other for Match 7 at the Sophia Gardens Stadium in Cardiff on Tuesday. The match starts at 3 PM IST.

Both the sides failed to open their account by suffering huge losses in their respective group stage matches. While Australia beat Afghanistan by 7 wickets, New Zealand beat Sri Lanka by 10 wickets.

The 10-wicket thrashing by New Zealand on Saturday emphatically exposed Sri Lanka’s long-standing batting inadequacies. Afghanistan fared much better and put up a good fight but eventually succumbed to the might of Australia.

Both the sides have played three matches against each other previously in World Cup with Sri Lanka leading 2-1. Additionally, since the 2015 World Cup, Afghanistan has won more ODIs than Sri Lanka despite playing 22 fewer games.

The game is crucial for both teams to get the much necessary boost in the tournament and to get off the mark.
