World Cup 2019: Is Bangladesh up for India challenge

Birmingham: Aiming for a pole position, India will fight Bangladesh on Tuesday at the Edgbaston grounds here. The weather is predicted to not interfere with play today and the match is scheduled to start at 3 pm.

Virat Kohli’s men would look to quickly shrug off defeat against England and ensure their semi-final qualification. Meanwhile, Bangladesh are desperately in need of a victory to be in the race to semi-finals.

India is suffering from injury woes with Shikhar Dhawan and Vijay Shankar already ruled out of the tournament. Rishabh Pant will be raring to prove his worth today. It will be interesting to see what batting combination captain Virat Kohli will use today.

Incidentally, Jasprit Bumrah is on the verge of making history. He needs a five-wicket haul against Bangladesh to become the joint-fastest Indian bowler to take 100 ODI wickets. Only other Indian bowler to achieve this feat is magnificent Mohammed Shami. If Bumrah manages a 5-wicket haul today then he would become joint 6th fastest to 100 wickets overall along with Trent Boult (56) and Mohammed Shami (56).

Meanwhile, Mustafe Murtaza and his men cannot be taken lightly. Bangladesh have been known to cause upset and turn upside down even the biggest teams. All-rounder Shakib Al Hassan and veteran Mushfiqur Rahim are the team’s strengths. Their only major area of concern is the fielding and inability to control run flow.

Coming to statistics, this is a must-win match for Bangladesh and also the next with Pakistan. If they end with better run-rate they have a fair chance for a semi-final berth. India also has two matches- one with Bangladesh today and next with West Indies. They need one win for a confirmed berth.
