India head coach Gautam Gambhir was recently spotted at a Delhi Premier League game where he took part in a quick rapid-fire session. Asked to pair up words with Indian cricketers, Gambhir had some surprising choices. He branded Shubman Gill the “Most Stylish” one, and Virat Kohli as “Desi Boy”. Some of the other strong pairings were Sachin Tendulkar as a “clutch” player, Jasprit Bumrah as “Speed”, and Nitish Rana as “Golden Arm”.

Gambhir also gave his views on other cricketers, calling VVS Laxman a “run machine” and Rishabh Pant the “most funny” player. Zaheer Khan was referred to as the “Death Over Specialist”, though Gambhir had originally wanted to name Bumrah for the same. Rahul Dravid got the nickname of “Mr. Consistent”.

This light-hearted exchange is a relief for Gambhir ahead of the Asia Cup, which begins next week. Meanwhile, former cricketer Aakash Chopra questioned the beginning of Gambhir as head coach in Test cricket, pointing towards India’s win percentage of 33.33% in 15 Tests under his guidance. However, Chopra appreciated the team’s transitioning phase and his praise for their performance in the England series.
