Mumbai: Indian cricket team batsman Prithvi Shaw turned 25 years old on 9 November. He received the best birthday gift of the day when he was named in Mumbai’s probable list of 28 players for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy scheduled to be played between 23 November and 15 December. This was all the more special because Shaw had recently lost his place in Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy side.
Prithvi Shaw’s inclusion in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy probables list brings respite to the struggling batsman. Last year, he was dropped from the Ranji Trophy team after being declared unfit, suffering which has been going on for the last few years.
However, a video of Prithvi Shaw celebrating his birthday with his friends raised many eyebrows and witnessed a debate over his discipline. In the video, he is seen dancing his heart out and enjoying with his group of friends. The video went viral which he himself had posted on his Instagram story. His fans questioned his fitness and cricket focus with the form that he is going through at present and the disciplinary issues he is undergoing.
The reaction to the video has gone viral on social media. Fans expressed disappointment and concern regarding the priorities of Prithvi Shaw. First off, it is not wrong that Shaw wanted to celebrate his birthday and have fun; but definitely not at this point in his life and under these circumstances.
Since the famous knock of 546 runs in the Harris Shield at the age of 14 uplifted him into fame, Prithvi Shaw has been hailed as the next big thing in Indian cricket. He was also the captain of the Indian U-19 team that won the U-19 Cricket World Cup in 2018.
Thanks to his achievement, he was given a Team India debut cap just some months after his win at the U-19 World Cup. Shaw scored a century in his Test debut match for India. Ever since that, there have been issues with Shaw’s fitness and other disciplinary matters, and his chance has not yet come for regaining his place in the Indian team.
