Pakistan anchor's witty response to panellist's claim about India's Champions Trophy win, says Pakistan will be remembered as a 'tailor'
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is outraged at the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) supposed snub at the Champions Trophy closing ceremony in Dubai. Even though PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi had made the ICC aware of his non-attendance, chief operating officer Sumair Ahmed was at the venue but not invited onto the stage.
The ceremony witnessed BCCI president Roger Binny, secretary Devajit Saikia, and ICC chairman Jay Shah presenting medals and trophies to the Indian players, who had won the tournament by defeating New Zealand in the final. A Pakistani expert stated that the BCCI was responsible for snubbing Sumair. The expert further stated that the Indian players’ white blazers will always bear Pakistan’s name as hosts on it. “It was a shocking experience. Throughout the tournament, India has attempted to push Pakistan back. But Pakistan emerged victorious in the end. That white jacket on them with Pakistan’s name on it will always be inscribed,” the analyst opined on ARY News.
The host retorted with humor, declaring that India will recall Pakistan as a “tailor”. “Issi bahane Pakistan ko as darzi zarur yaad rakhenge” (On this pretext, India will surely remember Pakistan as a tailor). The PCB has formally protested to the ICC regarding the incident. While approached by Geo News, the ICC spokesperson said Naqvi was invited but didn’t show up, and only the head of the host board is invited to take part in the awards ceremony.
former Pakistani cricketers Wasim Akram and Shoaib Akhtar were disappointed at the PCB’s non-attendance at the ceremony. According to Akram, “As far as I know, Chairman Saab (PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi) wasn’t well. but the people that came from there (PCB) were Sumair Ahmad Syed (Chief Operating Officer of PCB) and Usman Wahla (Director of International for PCB), but no one was there on the stage.”
