Wellington: Virat Kohli will be rested for last two ODIs and the entire T20 series against New Zealand, the Board of Cricket Control of India (BCCI) announced on Wednesday.

Vice-captain Rohit Sharma will lead the team in Kohli’s absence.

“Considering his workload in the last few months, the team management and Senior Selection Committee is of the view that it would be ideal for him to get adequate rest ahead of the home series against Australia,” the board said in a media statement.

Skipper Kohli made a fabulous 45 against the Black Caps in first ODI at Napier today. India won by 8 wickets today.

On Tuesday, Kohli became the first man to sweep all three ICC awards when he won the ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year, Test Cricketer of the Year and Cricketer of the Year. Kohli has won Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year two years in a row.

Team India will be playing five ODIs and 3 T20s in New Zealand.

Next match will be on January 26th at Mount Maunganui. Fans will be expecting Team India to continue with their winning streak.
