Following the major setback at the Paris Olympics by the disqualification of Indian star wrestler Vinesh Phogat, the athlete reportedly fainted and has been hospitalized.
According to reports, Vinesh Phogat was hospitalized minutes after she was disqualified from the women’s 50kg final. Reportedly, she was disqualified due to dehydration.
It is worth mentioning here that Vinesh Phogat was disqualified for being overweight by a few grams over 50kg on Wednesday morning. Following this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to his official X (formerly Twitter) handle and showed support for the wrestler.
“Vinesh, you are a champion among champions! You are India’s pride and an inspiration for each and every Indian. Today’s setback hurts. I wish words could express the sense of despair that I am experiencing,” PM Modi tweeted.
“At the same time, I know that you epitomize resilience. It has always been your nature to take challenges head-on. Come back stronger! We are all rooting for you,” he further said in the tweet.
According to official reports, PM Modi also spoke to IOA President PT Usha and sought first-hand information from her on the issue and the options India has in the wake of Vinesh’s setback. He asked her to explore the full range of options to help Vinesh’s case. He also urged PT Usha to file a strong protest regarding her disqualification if that helps Vinesh.
Meanwhile, speaking to ANI, Uncle of Vinesh Phogat and father of Geeta and Babita Phogat, Mahavir Phogat said, “I have nothing to say. The entire country has expected Gold… Rules are there but if a wrestler is 50-100 grams overweight they are usually allowed to play. I will ask the people of the country not to despair, one day she will bring a medal for sure… I’ll prepare her for the next Olympics.”
Presently, the whole nation is in shock with the disqualification of the wrestler due to being overweight by 150 gram. Netizens have shown support to the wrestler following the disqualification.
