Tokyo: In what can be considered as a proud moment for India, Mariyappan Thangavelu and Sharad Kumar have won silver and bronze medals respectively in High Jump in the ongoing Tokyo Paralympics 2020.
Mariyappan Thangavelu and Sharad Kumar got the medals in the men’s high jump T42 event. With their medals, the medals tally of India rose to 10.
Mariyappan got the silver medal after jumping 1.86m while Kumar clinched the bronze with an effort of 1.83. America’s Sam Grewe pocketed the gold medal after jumping 1.88m in his third attempt.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated both the medal-winner Para-athletes. “Soaring higher and higher! Mariyappan Thangavelu is synonymous with consistence and excellence. Congratulations to him for winning the Silver Medal. India is proud of his feat,” he said while congratulating Mariyappan.
