T20 World Cup 2024: Afghanistan defeat New Zealand by 84 runs

In today’s match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 played at Providence Stadium, Afghanistan defeated New Zealand by 84 runs.

Briefing about the match, New Zealand won the toss and opted to bowl first. Batting first Afghanistant made 159 runs after losing six wickets in 20 overs. Of which, Rahmanullah Gurbaz made 80 runs, Ibrahim Zadran made 44 runs and Azmatullah Omarzai made 22 runs. From New Zealand’s side, Trent Boult and Matt Henry took two wickets each and Lockie Ferguson took one wicket.

Chasing the target, New Zealand lost all wickets in 75 runs in 15.2 overs letting Afghanistan win by 84 runs. Of which Glenn Phillips made 18 runs, Matt Henry made 12 runs, and Kane Williamson made 9 runs. From Afghanistan’s side, Fazalhaq Farooqi and Rashid Khan took four wickets, while Mohammad Nabi took 2 wickets.

Meanwhile, in another match today between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, the latter defeated the former by 2 wickets. Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bowl first. Batting first, Sri Lanka made 125 runs losing 9 wickets. Chasing the target, Bangladesh made 125 runs losing 8 wickets and won the match against Sri Lanka by two wickets.
