Sports Climbing At Kalinga Stadium Attracts Young Climbers

Bhubaneswar: Training in Sports Climbing at the Sport Climbing High-Performance Centre (HPC) at Kalinga Stadium complex has attracted more than three dozen participants.

Sports department officials said that most of the participants are from Sainik School and Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS). The camp started on July 26.  

“Odisha now has one of the best climbing facilities in the country. The climbing wall at the stadium offers an opportunity for international level climbing. Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) coaches are taking all safety precautions and imparting training to the budding climbers,” said a department official.

On the future of Sports Climbing in the State, IMF National chairman Brig. M. P. Yadav said that they will hire international coaches in coordination with the Department of Sports and Youth Services.

Sport Climbing is one of the fastest-growing sports in the world today.  It is now an Olympic Sport and will make its debut in the 2020 Olympic games in Japan.
