Saina Nehwal & Sameer Verma spearhead Indian challenge at Swiss Open

India’s top shuttlers will have to sideline All England disappointment and rather concentrate on Swiss Open

Basel: Two-time winner Saina Nehwal and defending champions Sameer Verma will attempt at shrugging off the disappointment of All England Badminton Championship and shift their attention to Swiss Open to be played in Basel, Switzerland from Tuesday onwards.

The BWF World Tour Super 300 event will be Saina’s fourth outing this season, having won the Indonesia Masters before losing in the semifinals and quarterfinals at Malaysia Masters and All England Championship respectively.

Seeded third, Saina is expected to face second-seeded He Bingjiao of China in the semifinals if the results fall in her favour in the Swiss Open Badminton championship.

Defending champion Sameer Verma’s journey had begun with this title which culminated into a World Tour Final semifinal finish last year and a career-high ranking of 11. He will face a qualifier and B Sai Praneeth in the second round.

India will also be represented in men and women’s doubles and as well as in mixed doubles by Parupalli Kashyap, Sai Praneeth, Vaishnavi Jakka Reddy, Arjun MR, Ramchandran Shlok, Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy amongst others.
