Bhubaneswar: In a major acknowledgement for budding Odia volleyball player Sirisha Karami, who made it to the India under-18 Volleyball team, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar hailed her on Twitter and claimed he felt proud of the girl.
Taking to his Twitter handle, Sachin wrote: “Sirisha’s dream to help her mother, village, state & the nation through sport is inspiring. We’re proud of you! #playitHERway #DayoftheGirl.”
Sirisha, a student of Kalimela Kanyashram in Malkangiri district, had represented Odisha in several tournaments and also participated in the national volleyball camp. Despite coming from a poor family, the 16-year-old has overcome tremendous odds to become a successful sportsperson. Sirisha aspires to bring glory for her village, state and country.
Sachin’s praise came ahead of the ‘International Day of the Girl Child’, which falls on October 11.
