Mumbai: Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma and wife Ritika Sajdeh have welcomed a baby boy as their second child. The couple already had a daughter, Samaira, born in 2018, who will turn six on December 30. Rohit took a paternity break to spend time with wife Ritika at the birth, missing training sessions in Australia leading into the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Rohit’s availability for the first Test against Australia on November 22 in Perth was in doubt, and observers speculated about his leadership in the initial Tests. Head coach Gautam Gambhir said, “At this moment, there’s no confirmation. Hopefully, he will be available. We will let you know.”
However, going by recent reports, Rohit might still make it for the first Test if everything falls in place at home. The BCCI has already done all the necessary paper work in preparation for his eleventh-hour inclusion.
“We have Easwaran and KL Rahul if Rohit is not available. We will take a call,” Gambhir said, dropping hints about Rohit’s possible exclusion from the India squad for this tour of Australia.
The couple has kept the news of Ritika’s pregnancy under wraps for quite a while; these reports did emerge only recently after Rohit Sharma’s participation in the first Test had been in question.
