Rahi Sarnobat shoots Gold at Asian Games 2018; India’s tally now at 11

Palembang: Rahi Sarnobat won the gold medal in women’s 25m pistol event at the ongoing Asian Games 2018 here on Wednesday. With this, Rahi becomes first Indian female shooter to win gold at Asian Games while India’s medal tally now reached at 11.

Her gold was India’s fourth in the ongoing tournament and second in shooting. Saurabh Chaudhary had shot a gold in the 10m pistol finals yesterday.

The 27-year-old shot an Asian Games record score of 34 and although Naphaswan Yangpaiboon of Thailand provided a tough challenge to the Indian shooter, she was able to clinch the title after two rounds of shoot-off.

The final went into shoot-off after Rahi and Yangpaiboon were tied on 34 points. Both Rahi and Yangpaiboon shot four out of five shots in the first shoot-off, and then in the second shoot-off the Indian prevailed over her opponent by missing one less.

Kim Minjung of South Korea pocketed the bronze medal.

The Maharashtra girl had won a bronze medal in the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon. In the Commonwealth Games , also she has won three medals (gold in 2010, 2014 and silver in 2010).
