New York: World number one Rafael Nadal clinched his third US Open Title this morning. The 31-year old Spaniard defeated first time Grand Slam finalist South African Kevin Anderson in straight sets 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 to clinch the title at the Arthur Ashe Stadiumhere .
Nadal has now won two Grand Slams in the same year for the first time since 2013, having won the French Open in June.
“It’s just unbelievable what happened this year,” said Nadal after winning the final.
With this win, Nadal has taken his tally of Grand Slam titles to 16, three behind Roger Federer.
Earlier, Switzerland’s Martina Hingis and Taiwan’s Chan Yung-Jan won the US Open women’s doubles title, when they rolled past the Czech partnership of Lucie Hradecka and Katerina Siniakova 6-3 6-2.
