Paris Olympics 2024: Manu Bhaker, Sarabjot Singh script history, bag bronze for India in mixed shooting
Indian shooters, Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh have scripted history by clinching the bronze medal in the 10m air pistol mixed team shooting event against South Korea in the Paris Olympics 2024. The pair beat the Korean pair 16-10 to win India’s 2nd medal in Paris.
Notably, Manu Bhaker has become the first athlete in the history of independent India to win two medals in a single Olympics edition. The only Indian athlete who has done so before is Norman Pritchard won two silver medals in athletics during the 1900 Games.
It is worth mentioning here that the 22-year-old is also the first-ever Indian woman to win an Olympic medal in shooting. She might have clinched Silver, but narrowly missed it by a margin of just 0.1 points to South Korea’s Kim Yeji.
After her first win, Manu Bhaker took to her X (formerly Twitter) handle and said, “Winning this medal is a dream come true, not just for me but for everyone who has supported me. I am deeply grateful to the NRAI, SAI, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Coach Jaspal Rana sir, the Haryana government, and OGQ. I dedicate this victory to my country for their incredible support and love.”
