Odia sprinter Dutee Chand wins gold at the 2019 Summer Universiade in Naples

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s ace sprinter and favourite daughter Dutee Chand won a gold medal in women’s 100m event at the 30th Summer Universiade in Napoli, Italy.

The ace athlete is representing KIIT University, Odisha at the World University Games.

Clocking at 11.32 seconds, Dutee became the first Indian sprinter to win a global event title. She had qualified for the finals with a time of 11.41 seconds in the semifinal earlier on Tuesday.

Dutee Chand took to Twitter to share her happiness. She said, “With years of hard work and your blessings, I have yet again broken the record by winning the Gold in 100m dash in 11.32 seconds at The World University Games, Napoli. In the pictures, are the winners too, with a heart of Gold from Germany and Sweden.”

Referring to recent unnecessary controversies that she was embroiled in, she said, “Pull me down, I will come back stronger!”

President Ram Nath Kovind congratulated Dutee on her rare achievement. He said, “Congratulations @DuteeChand for winning the 100m sprint at the Universiade, the World University Games, in Naples. This is India’s first such gold and a moment of immense pride for our country. Please keep up the effort, and look to greater glory at the Olympics.”

The ever-humble Dutee Chand promised to President Kovind that she will try to bring Olympics Gold Medal home.
