Odia boy Soundarya bags bronze in Asian Chess

Bhubaneswar, Apr 01: Soundarya Kumar Pradhan brought laurels for the state after winning bronze medal in the International Braille Chess Association (IBCA) Asian Chess Championship at the Dr TMA Pai Hall in Manipal University in Karnataka on Friday.

The 18-year-old visually challenged boy bagged the bronze medal while Kishan Gangolli and Makwana Ashwin K from India clinched the gold and silver medals respectively.

The Bargarh boy’s elder brother Prachurya Kumar Pradhan also represented the country in the meet that was organised by the International Braille Chess Association in collaboration with All India Chess Federation for the Blind (AICFB) from March 22 to 31.

Asian countries like Bangladesh, Philippines and Sri Lanka participated in the 10-day event.
