National Para Athletics Championship 2022 begins in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The National Para Athletics Championship 2022 began at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Monday. An inaugural program and cultural function was organised during which the artistes performed with Sambalpuri songs that enthralled the guests and participants.

Odisha sports minister Tusharkanti Behera, Secretary Vineel Krishna and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor Sulochana Das attended the inaugural ceremony.

As many as 982 para-athletes including 758 athletes with physical disabilities, 153 visually impaired athletes, 44 athletes with cerebral palsy, seven athletes with intellectual disability and 20 short stature athletes are taking part in the championship.

The participants will compete in multiple events across 12 disciplines in 185 categories like Javelin, Discus Throw, Club Throw, Shot put Throw, High Jump, Long Jump and running events of 100m/200m/400m/800m/1500m/5000m.

The Para Athletics Championship 2022 would conclude on March 31.
